1. Re-Form the UC's Social Programs Committee
- Establish "Social Programs Committee" to plan and host medium- to large-scale events open to all students
- With a small amount of money, this committee can make a big difference
- Last spring, with $10,000, SPC was able to host a basketball game tailgate, bring the Buried Life (MTV show) to campus, and host a "last week of school" ice cream giveaway outside of the Science Center
- The committee's most popular event, Electric Labs, drew over 1000 students to Northwest Labs for an all school dance DJed by artist 5 & a Dime
2. Re-Structure the UC's Committee System
- Focus the UC around two committees instead of the five used now
- The Finance Committee is the most important committee right now on the UC; it gives out almost $400,000 to student groups every year
- The new structure will center the UC around the FiCom and the Social Programs Committee
- Eliminate the excessive committees and absorb any useful functions they serve into SPC or FiCom
- By focusing on these two aspects, the UC will start using its time effectively, helping it to make a real difference in student life at Harvard
- Representatives will still be encouraged to work on their own special projects by themselves or in small groups
3. Re-Focus our Efforts for Social Life Policy Changes
- Spenser and Darren will push administrators to make changes to social life policy
- For example, the Office of Student Life and the College have a policy against parties on Harvard-Yale weekend; we will work with the office on this issue
- Spenser and current UC President Danny Bicknell '13 have convinced the administration to approve a freshmen-only dance party for the Friday night of Harvard-Yale. This is good progress, but Spenser and Darren will ensure more is done to improve the student experience here at Harvard
- Spenser is planning and organizing "The Dance," the H-Y freshmen programming event.
